Our remote first culture

amealio is remote first. Most of our team works from wherever they do their best work. But we build for restaurants, and restaurants live in the physical world. So how do we combine both?

Three principles.

1. Async by default. Slack, Notion and Loom carry most decisions. Meetings happen only when a decision needs three people in the same 30 minutes. Everyone writes.

2. Weekly in person days. Each city hub, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, has one day a week when the team meets at a partner restaurant. We work from there, eat there, and talk to the staff.

3. Field visits are non negotiable. Every engineer, designer and product person visits at least one partner restaurant every month. You cannot build for a restaurant you have never watched during dinner service.

What this looks like in practice. Our latest Selfie Mirror firmware update was shipped by an engineer working from Kochi, tested on a mirror in Pune the same night, and rolled out to 10 restaurants by the next morning.
